The Many Works Of Dina Shubin

By Rhea Frazier

Many female artists are very supportive of their fellow women in their work. One of the most well known of these is Dina Shubin. Known for her very visual pictures of women engaged in music or dance, her trademark is their elongated, irregular bodies and the dreamy and calm expressions on their beautiful faces.

She is a 1990 graduate of a Moscow teacher's school. Nine years after that she relocated to Canada and since then has displayed her work in galleries and art shows all over the world. Her distinctive and feminine style is very easily recognizable once individuals begin to follow and appreciate her work.

If you would like to own a picture that depicts strong, talented women, then a Shubin is your best choice. The works show women at their best or most relaxed. The print "Dreamy Day" is of a young woman on a window seat with a far-off pensive look on her face. She looks calm and peaceful in her comfortable surroundings and could be thinking about any number of pleasant thoughts. "Sharing a Secret" is a work depicting two friends exchanging confidences with one figure whispering in the other woman's ear. They seem happy and genuinely fond of each other and this representation of friendship is something we would all like to achieve.

Her main theme does seem to be that of women and music and sometimes just music by itself. "Violin" appears as an abstract painting with a violin as the focal point. "Flute Queen" shows an attractive young woman intent on playing the instrument. "Girl in Blue' leaves us guessing with her face turned from us but we just know she is concentrating on getting just the right note.

This talented artist also has many other quality works including abstracts. These pieces consist of many sharp edges and unexpected bursts of color and light among rectangles, squares and triangles. Some of the better-known works include "Play of Light, " "Composition N1 and N2, " and "Abstract Composition."

The artist apparently also loves blooming flowers. She has many paintings that depict this type of foliage at their very best. Some examples include "Tall Vase, " "Sunny Day, " "Red Bouquet, " and "White Bouquet." The varied vases and delicate flowers are all very different but the final result is realistic and subtly vibrant. These works would make wonderful pieces for a sunny kitchen or light-filled sun room.

Still life paintings are also her specialty. She seems to have a penchant for the smooth curves of glass bottles as she has painted several such works with these articles featured. The more well-known works include "Fancy Bottles, " "Bottles on the Table, " or "Fancy Bottles in the Light."

Add quality works of art to your own personal collection with some of these paintings. They will fill up empty walls and provide instant conversation starters at parties or gatherings. Some of her newer works will intrigue and delight your art enthusiast friends. She continues her theme of calm and tranquility with her painting "In Reflection" where a girl leans on the edge of a rowboat and stares at her reflection in the waters around her. "In Blue Light" and "Cello" are works that continue to feature young women with their favorite musical instruments.
