The Power Of Art And The Impact On The Mind

By Marissa Velazquez

Art has always been a very important piece of the culture of humans ever since the time of cavemen when cave drawings and prehistoric drum beats were made. Now there is actually a reason why many forms of artistry can stand the test of time and still be valuable today. It is simply because the power of art may influence the human mind itself.

Of course there are so many different types of art forms just like visual images, music, or plays. A lot of researchers actually studied the significance of different arts subjects and the development of the human brain of students. They were able to discover that there actually is a very significant link between the two.

Nowadays where the world is getting more and more competitive, subjects that are about arts are slowly being taken out of the curriculum of many schools these days. There are so many schools these days that would just want to focus on the academic subjects like english, math, or science because these are the main ones in the education system. Since the focus has gone to these subjects, the arts are no longer of importance.

When a child is very young, he experiences pleasure in dabbling with activities such as drawing, singing, or dancing in order to express himself. To children, this is not a form of gaining knowledge but rather an outlet wherein they could express what they feel whether it be joy or sadness. In a sense, artistry is actually a natural instinct humans use in order to interact with one another.

With regard to music, music is something that humans can already appreciate when they have just come out of the womb of their mothers. Music is known to be able to trigger certain emotions in the brain that could spark some creative functions. Actually, because these emotions are let out, the brain would then have the tendency to make images connected to the music play in the heads of the listeners.

Paintings or drawings are also known to be able to make a person be able to unleash some of his hidden brain functions. Pictures are visual representations of how the creator perceives life and just puts them down in paper which means that there is definitely a deeper meaning behind the picture. Because of this, people who look at pictures would tend to think about the meaning behind the picture and would actually use methods of critical thinking.

Now actually, physical activities like martial arts or even sports may very well go under the category of forms of arts. Of course everyone knows that physical activity in general would increase the oxygen that goes to the brain. Because of the extra oxygen will actually make the brain activity become much faster.

The power of art is really strong and may even influence the way the brain of a human develops. It is because of this reason that man has preserved its art forms and has made it a part of his culture throughout the years. It is because it is something of very high value and must be appreciated even by the younger generation.
