Clothing is considered as a very important part of our history, and has been used mainly for the purpose of protection from minor abrasions and for maintaining body temperature in extreme climates. Today, clothes have been used for a variety of reasons which still includes its practicality, but with the addition of having a way to express oneself. The traditional usage of this textile has also been transformed into dance clothes for kids.

The development of garments that children use for dancing is quite interesting. Our ancestors sew together fabrics that were sourced from skins and surrounding vegetation, and used needles with threads made out of materials that were natural and organic. These clothes were then not only worn by adults, but also their young that were more susceptible and sensitive.

Specialized clothes for children were also observed to become more popular in much more advanced societies of early civilizations. Young people were clothed for reasons like rituals, warding off evil curses, attracting luck and pleasing the gods, aside from the usual day-to-day practical usage of such items.

A key turning point, and which is actually considered revolutionary in apparel for young persons, is the invention of the art of fashion. Apparel design became an expression of wealth, status and personality beginning fourteenth century. Clothing during those times were made from either silk, dyed wool, bleached linen and cotton. Mainly, it was the upper classes in society whom adorned themselves in such grand apparels.

The vast amounts of materials available for kids clothing today, and the different occasions on when they can be used for is astounding. Choice of materials used for a specific purpose would usually depend on how they can fully utilize its properties. It would not be surprising that some materials have been chosen in general for a specific activity for children, particularly dancing.

Dancing would also depend on the type of genre that the kids are in to which may include jazz, hip-hop, ballroom, folk, ballet, modern and country, just to name a few. Choosing the right type of fabric for a specific type of music is very important. For example, ballet would require girls to wear tights, a leotard, tutus and small skirts, while males would have less strict garments like t-shirt, belts and sweat pants.

Some children may find themselves liking hip-hop dancing, which would usually have less stringent rules in the type of clothes they can wear and gives a better chance for the participants to freely express themselves. Some of usual types of clothing are blazers, hoodies, vests, loose pants, leggings and sneakers. Boys and girls in more conservative families would usually take a liking in folk dance. This dance style would usually have clothing styles that would represent the culture of their people. Another example would be for hula dancers, that would commonly wear colorful garments, grass skirts and shell necklaces.

Adhering to dance clothes for kids would make them aware of multiple virtues that they can learn from at an early stage, like discipline, cultural awareness, confidence and socialization with others. Another benefit of this would be the happy memories that the whole family can cherish seeing their young ones wearing little versions of adult garments.
