A Quick Look At The Guitar Line Up And Particulars From Schertler

By Madeline Pittman

Drop the name Schertler and many musician's eyes will light up, from the professional musicians doing daily gigs to the dreamy eyed teen in their room air-guitaring all night. This company started with the idea of a collaboration between 2 musical icons Stephan Schertler and the famed Swiss guitar builder and designer Claudio Pagelli. Their theory was to craft then market smaller electric-acoustic guitars

They have a standard equipped hardware and high quality pickups, with some limited upgrades being available when purchased. The guitar bodies were planned to be made from the finest available spruces and hardwoods for sound quality and tone. The shapes were to be uniquely futuristic when viewed. While they have been engaged in business they have surpassed many of these prospects to craft a group of special instruments that every musician can be proud to own.

They have 4 distinct though similar guitars to build a unique instrument from. Most instruments can be made to order by picking and choosing things such as finishes and hardware. The 4 models are the CP, the SB, the SM and the SP.

The CP model uses nylon string and is as works just well around a small campfire as on a huge stage for thousands of fans. The solid top is made using Swiss spruce for warmth and tone. The side and back use Indian rosewood giving it added warmth and depth for the sound. The two pickups are the electronic type with typical side mount controls.

The SB is a steel string model. It also shares the Swiss alpine spruce top for greater tone and depth. The back and sides are made from a newer hardwood called Bubinga. This gives it a sharper tone and sustain. The typical electronic controls are on-board and do a nice job mixing the sound.

The model SM is a steel string instrument as well. It uses the same spruce top to help enhance sound quality and the depth. Both back and the sides are hand-crafted from choice heart cut mahogany. This gives the instrument a much richer thus fuller sound than most of its stringed counterparts. It also uses the same electronics package and pickups other models share.

The SP model is another fine steel string player in their lineup. It has the classic spruce top giving it a rich sound quality. Its side and back are crafted using Indian rosewood. Playability is spot on for flamenco, classical or folk music. The on board power electronics offer a nice range of controls that are positioned for maximum playability.

One of the greatest selling points is an almost limitless combinations that are possible using the on board pre-amp and mixer. It will never replace an expensive foot board, it does try hard to. Every control performs nicely doing what it is expected do.

Recently more mainstream artists are embracing the sounds and benefits of using acoustic guitars, plugged in and unplugged. From the look of things Schertler guitars are ahead of the curve. With its solid build and unique styling it is truly a sound investment.
