Choose Funny Dragon Books For Boys

By Rosella Campbell

Dragons are mythical creatures that have been around for centuries. Their popularity never seems to wane. In the past, they have usually been depicted as fierce creatures that can torch whole villages with one breathe. In modern stories, however, the characters of the dragons are very diverse. Funny dragon books for boys cater to their fascination with dragons but can make them laugh out loud and may even result in a lifelong appreciation for reading.

There is something about dragons that keeps readers coming back for more. They appear in different time periods and across cultural barriers. They have often been portrayed as villains in stories but this has been turned on its head in some of the modern tales. They may now be friends, protectors, in need of being rescued or even pets. Dragons living in a modern world are going to have very different challenges to those living in medieval times.

The characters of these dragons are just like any other characters in that they may be mean, grumpy, angry, argumentative or funny and quirky. Dragons traditionally lived in remote areas inside dark caves. In modern stories they can live about anywhere and are found in homes, libraries, post offices and even make themselves at home in sandcastles on the beach.

They come in all shapes and sizes and they do not always breathe fire either. Even if they do breathe fire, they may be better at making toast than toasting people alive. They may also breathe out marshmallows rather than fire. Some of them hiccup when they try to breathe fire and this makes them very self conscious.

In the stories of old, dragons would eat birds, snakes, rats, bats, or even humans, especially children. Modern day dragons in stories for children have very different tastes. Some of them are confirmed vegetarians. Others have a taste for tacos and can be enticed to attend a party by supplying a huge bucket of them. Unfortunately, chaos results when they eat the salsa.

What these dragons do in stories can be very unpredictable, leading to many comic situations. In stories for children, some of these situations can be used to bring across life lessons without being preachy. They can learn about self image, relationships, tolerance for others, bullying and even environmental issues without realizing they are doing so.

These stories may be full of fun and adventure but they also help children to navigate through life. They connect with the characters and wonder what they would do in similar situations. Their imaginations are stimulated and their thinking skills and problem solving abilities are enhanced. They may also learn about the consequences of certain actions, relationships and various social issues in a fun context.

The fascination with dragons never seems to wear thin. Many wonderful stories are still being written about them. These stories may be just what is needed to keep a boy entertained and encourage him to read. They are available from many different sources, including from online stores. Reading reviews written by parents is helpful when making choices. A book that makes a child laugh is one that will be remembered.
